Edinburgh pensioner dies in fatal road crash

A 76-year-old woman died in a fatal car crash in Edinburgh this morning.

Police were called to Saxe Coburg Place in Stockbridge by eyewitnesses, at around 10am on Friday morning.

Emergency services quickly responded, with around five police vehicles and several ambulances attending the incident. However, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police locked down the area, and locals were told to avoid the area while police investigated. Officers remained on the scene for several hours, but the road is now open again.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Saxe Coburg Place in Edinburgh, at around 10am on Friday, 21 May 2021, following a road traffic collision involving one vehicle.”

“As a result of the collision the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 76-year-old woman, sustained fatal injuries.

“The road was closed until around 1pm for collision investigation and has since re-opened. Anyone who saw the incident and has not yet spoken to officers, should contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 0823 of 21 May.”
