The United Kingdom Government's Chief Medical Advisor will become a Sir in The New Years Honours List

Professor Chris Whitty became a household name during the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.

The medical expert is the Chief Medical Officer in England, and also represents the devolved administrations, such as Scotland, in his capacity as Chief Medical Advisor to the entire United Kingdom Government.

“Good to see Chris Whitty getting a knighthood, this is someone who spent Christmas Day 2020 (and maybe 2021 for all I know) working on the hospital wards”

Jim Pickard, Chief Political Correspondent for The Financial Times

Whitty, aged 55, worked through Christmas 2022 on A&E and COVID-19 wards in England and is described by those in Government as being a quiet and private man.

He also caught headlines earlier in 2022, when he was put into a headlock by a former disgraced estate agent in London.

Lewis Hughes from Romford was given a suspended sentence for what he described as being “10 second of madness.”

Professor Chris Whitty is part of the New Years Honours List to be knighted. It’s widely believed he will be joined by teenage tennis star Emma Raducanu and Daniel Craig.
