Scottish Transport Secretary, Graeme Dey has left Government for health reasons.

Graeme Dey, Scottish Transport Secretary and former Minister for Parliamentary Business and Veterans has resigned from Government on Monday 24 January.

Mr Dey, of the MSP, wrote to The First Minister:

“Regrettably, despite my continuing passion, I find myself unable now to give this hugely important ministerial role everything it rightly requires and deserves.”

Mr Dey was elected as Transport Secretary in the Holyrood Elections, 2021 and has expressed his own regret in having to step down.

Nicola Sturgeon has accepted Mr Dey’s letter, commending his work and dedication to the Scottish Government and his Constituency, Angus South. However, she agrees it was the ‘right decision’ for Mr Dey to make, at this time.

Speaking about his contributions to the recent COP26 conference and ‘huge efforts’ to tackle the climate crisis, he has implemented strategy and set foundations to move forward.

The First Minister also talked of Graeme’s dedication and time in his time as Minister for Veterans, which is still supporting the Veteran community today.

Mr Dey leaves with well wishes from Ms Sturgeon who said, finally:

“The door will always be open should Graeme wish a return to government in the future. In the meantime, I wish him well and know that he will continue to serve his Angus constituents with drive and commitment.”
